Spite House from Montreal played the final show of their jaunt opening for Militarie Gun at La Maroquinerie, and it also happened to be drummer Marc Tremblay’s birthday. Was that the reason the trio gave it everything they had, with a mix of abandon and genuine fury? Probably not; their intensity felt too natural for a one off, more like standard operating procedure. Spite House are exactly what Hüsker Dü might sound like today, and if that sounds hyperbolic, you weren't in the room.
Thirty minutes, ten songs, and the ceiling was already dripping. The stage was set for the detonation that followed.
