Like the evening’s headliners DITZ, Knives is an odd band to define. There is a clear alternative and post punk streak running through their music, but an experimental edge pushes everything further, from the chaotic noise detours to the sudden blasts of saxophone. There is some hardcore in the mix as well. The result is intense, confrontational and abrasive, yet buried inside the disorder are hooks that grab you instantly. Their debut album Glitter came out this year and as distinctive as it is, the band truly comes alive on stage, where every idea feels amplified in real time. When they walked off to a tape of The Dare’s "Girls," the audience was unsure of what they had just witnessed, yet certain they wanted more.
