Last week's Slipknot show was our last show of 2024. Here’s a look back at an incredible year of concert adventures! We hit a new record with 67 concerts and 96 artists, including 5 that we caught twice, for a grand total of 103 shows reviewed and/or photographed in 24 different venues. Even more exciting, 63 of those artists were first-time experiences for us! Dive into the links below for full galleries, most of which feature reviews, playable setlists, and videos.
Unfortunately, there were also quite a few concerts that we couldn't attend, and they were big ones. The main ones that got away were AC/DC, The Black Crowes, Paul McCartney, Robert Plant, Tenacious D, Cannibal Corpse, Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds, Taylor Swift, Deep Purple and the Triple Thrash Threat of Anthrax, Kreator and Testament. Thankfully, the disappointment is somewhat dulled by the fact that we'd already seen most of these artists before.
We'd be hard pressed to single out the best ones of the year, even establishing a top ten is an impossible task... But it's always a treat to see legends like Eric Clapton and Bob Dylan, or long-time favorites like Slash or Therapy?. Our pals Fantastic Negrito, Blackberry Smoke and Suffocation also delivered some smoking sets, while Rhiannon Giddens and Leyla McCalla mesmerized us with their authentic, organic sounds. We waved an emotional goodbye to Sepultura and Mr. Big and reunited with Bernard Allison for the first in nearly thirty years. As far as first times go, we enjoyed the hell out of Mayhem, The National and Die Antwoord. On the disappointment front, Jane's Addiction proved a little too shambolic for their own good, and subsequent developments confirmed that impression.
All in all, a fantastic year for live music, and 2025 is already looking pretty good also with concerts by Beth Hart, Santana, W.A.S.P., Jamiroquai, Iron Maiden, Katy Perry and Eric Clapton. Click HERE to check out our concerts calendar.
