A-ha Frontman Morten Harket Reveals Parkinson's Diagnosis: Band Plans to Adapt

Morten Harket, the iconic voice behind A-ha's global synth-pop success, has announced his diagnosis with Parkinson's disease. The 65-year-old Norwegian singer shared the news via the band's official Facebook page, expressing gratitude for the support he's received from fans worldwide.

Harket, born on September 14, 1959, in Kongsberg, Norway, has been the frontman of A-ha since the band's formation in 1982. The group skyrocketed to international fame with their 1985 hit "Take On Me," and has since released eleven studio albums, including their latest, True North, in 2022.

The progression of Parkinson's disease varies among individuals, and it's currently unclear how Harket's condition will affect A-ha's future activities. However, keyboardist Magne Furuholmen has indicated that the band intends to continue working together, adapting their plans to accommodate Harket's health needs.

Harket joins a growing list of musicians facing Parkinson's, including Ozzy Osbourne and Del Amitri's Justin Currie. Currie, diagnosed at 59, has spoken candidly about the challenges of performing with the disease, noting difficulties with muscle control and vocal performance.

As fans await further updates, the band's commitment to continue making music together offers hope for the future.
