Listen to Mastodon's Tribute to Brent Hinds here

When Brent Hinds parted ways with Mastodon in March 2025, it came as a shock to fans. As a founding member, guitarist and vocalist, he had been a key part of the band's identity for twenty five years. The split was difficult enough on its own, but events took a far more tragic turn a few months later.

On August 20, 2025, Hinds was killed in a motorcycle accident in Atlanta, a devastating loss for his former bandmates and for generations of fans who had followed his work since Mastodon's earliest days.

Now, fifteen months after his departure and just over nine months after his passing, Mastodon have surprise released "Your Ghost Again", the first glimpse of their upcoming ninth studio album. The track marks the beginning of a new chapter for the Atlanta progressive metal giants, who completed the record earlier this year.

While details regarding the album's title and release date have yet to be officially confirmed, "Your Ghost Again" is expected to serve as its lead single. The record will be the band's first full length studio effort since Hushed and Grim (2021), and their first album without Hinds.

The track features longtime Mastodon members Brann Dailor on drums and vocals, Troy Sanders on bass and vocals, and Bill Kelliher on guitar, alongside new guitarist Nick Johnston. Keyboards are handled by João "Rasta" Nogueira, who has been part of the band's touring and studio setup since 2021.
