It is always exciting for an old geezer like yours truly to watch a very young band in its infancy simply bashing through their songs as if their lives depend on it. The Herons may well become a future classic, or they may end up as one of the thousands of bands that form and dissolve as school, jobs, families, and adult responsibilities inevitably intervene. None of that matters right now. What matters is the show they are playing today. in front of you. With tunes sounding like The Jam if Paul Weller had a sense of humor about himself and with a fresh, unpretentious attitude, the set they played in support of Witch Post served as a useful reminder of what rock n’ roll should be: mischievous, slightly snotty, but above all loud and fun.
