Gregory Alan Isakov @ Trabendo, Paris - November 2nd, 2022

An excellent set by singer/songwriter Gregory Alan Isakov, who is bound to become the next folk-rock/Americana superstar.

Backed by a top-notch band including bass player John Grigsby and multi-instrumentalist Steve Varney, Isakov was playing a few hundred meters away from the venue he played when he last visited Paris, opening for the Lumineers. But this time, it was his audience, coming to hear his songs.

So for nearly 90 minutes, the South-African artist played songs from all of his records, with an emphasis on his breakthrough album The Weatherman. He also played a new song which will appear on his forthcoming album, scheduled to be released in... 2038, if he is to be believed.

The highlight of the evening was the encores, when Isakov and the band gathered in front of the stage and finished the concert in an informa, emotional fashion. This was, in all likelihood, the last time we got to see this artist in such an intimate setting. Next time he rolls through Europe, he will be commanding much bigger venues. Beyond just a concert, it was a privilege.
