Indie folk favorites The Lumineers (now just Wesley Schultz, Jeremiah Fraites, and their touring band) brought their ramshackle earnestness to the Adidas Arena on May 20, unfurling two hours of fist-clenching choruses and stadium-sized sentiment.
The staging was elaborate: towering screens, a central B-stage, and a burst of confetti at the midpoint. Ever the generous frontman, Schultz took a lap through the crowd like a folk-pop preacher, never losing his grip on the moment.
New material from Automatic was met with warm applause, and a rare outing of “Morning Song” added a welcome surprise. But the temperature rose for the hits—“Ho Hey,” “Ophelia,” and a rousing “Stubborn Love” that turned the arena into one giant chorus.
For all the scale and spectacle, The Lumineers still play like a campfire band at heart. That’s the trick, and the main reason the connection holds.
