If you have a taste for raw, dirty Detroit style rock and roll, somewhere along the axis of Radio Birdman, then Asteroid B-612 was likely on your radar back in the early to mid nineties. The band carved out a reputation on sheer intensity, loose, loud, and wired straight into that high energy lineage that runs from MC5 through to the Antipodean underground.
They were initially slated to bring that chaos to La Dame de Canton next week, but rising costs and the usual logistical headaches have forced the cancellation of their European tour. It is the kind of setback that has become increasingly common, and rarely lands lightly for bands operating at that level.
There is, however, a workaround. Frontman Johnny Casino, also known as Johnny Spittles, is stepping in with his other outfit, Thee Johnny Casino Syndicate, keeping the spirit of the tour alive in a more stripped down form. They will play La Bicyclette in Montreuil on April 16, joined by local garage upstarts thetruefaith, a fitting match for an evening that should lean heavily on volume, sweat, and no frills delivery.
