Pythies @ La Maroquinerie, Paris - October 12th, 2025

Pythies has been on a steep ascent in the two short years since its formation. The band keeps landing on the right festival and package lineups, which has allowed them to win over diverse audiences across France. They describe their sound as “bitchy grunge,” a fitting label for their raw, punchy blend of hard rock and punk. At the center stands bassist, singer, and songwriter Lise L, whose charisma grips the room and whose energy never lets up. None of it would matter if the songs weren’t there, but they deliver: heavy, hooky, and fun, their spite-laced anthems of lust, hate, and feminism fired up the crowd for Gyasi and won them a wave of new fans. Mid-set, they tore through a punked-up cover of Peaches’ “Fuck The Pain Away,” a sly nod to the older contingent in the room, many of whom were visibly fixated on the young women onstage. By the end, they had nailed the essential task of any opening act: leaving the crowd hungry for more.
