Glam-rock revivalist Gyasi’s rise through the rock ranks has been steady and striking, reaching a new peak with his participation in this year’s reunion album by the original Alice Cooper Band. His credentials are beyond question. He looks exactly like he sounds: part T. Rex, part Ziggy Stardust–era Bowie, with a dash of Stooges and a whole lot of unfiltered joy. On stage, he’s a rock and roll tornado, a live wire, a glittering eruption of energy. The music itself isn’t reinventing the wheel, these sounds have been around for half a century after all, but no one else today delivers them with such reverence, mischief, and sheer conviction. It helps that the songs are first-rate and the band razor-sharp. Flamboyant, magnetic, and just a touch unhinged, Gyasi embodies both rock’s past and its future.
