After a dose of tradition from old-school thrash titans Kreator, the next generation of sonic offenders proceeds to flatten what is left of the Parisian audience. Lamb of God play with a level of violence that feels almost absurd, but the remarkable thing is how little precision they sacrifice in the process.
Live, the band are even more ferocious than on record: Randy Blythe is the archetypal modern metal frontman, all focus and controlled rage, turning every line into a bark, shriek or growl. Mark Morton provides the other half of the assault, throwing out warped riffs and vicious solos while never losing the groove underneath them.
The best way to describe Lamb of God in concert is as a giant metal boulder hurtling down a mountain, gathering speed and crushing everything in its path. The fact that two thousand metal freaks paid good money to stand directly in front of it only sounds strange if you have never understood this music.
