India’s Bloodywood sits right at the confluence of those currents: the gnarly, groove heavy punch of nu metal combined with Punjabi folk rhythms, dhol percussion and Carnatic vocals. On paper it may appear gimmicky, in a live setting it was anything but. In fact, it slaps pretty hard. Their short set lit the room up with songs about resistance, unity and pride, choruses that sounded like rallying cries, and enough low end to shake the floor under the Olympia. Moshing, circle pits, walls of death, all the usual signs of a metal gathering appeared instantly.
The band played a few newer tracks from their latest release New Delhi but mostly drew from their debut album Rakshak, and every song pushed the temperature higher as the room geared up for Halestorm. Ferocious!
