Between The Buried And Me @ Alhambra, Paris - March 17th, 2023

Hard to believe that Between The Buried And Me have been releasing albums for over twenty years. Their latest one, Colors II, was released a year and a half ago and is the reason they are out touring right now. Equally informed by Progressive Metal, Technical Death Metal and Metalcore, this new record sees the North Carolina band experiment further with song structures and stylistic clashes.

Unfortunately, an undisclosed illness has sidelined guitarist Dustie Waring. But he had recorded his parts in advance, and the tapes are being played back during the show so that the band can faithfully replicate the intricate two-guitar interlock between him and Paul Waggoner, which sounds a bit like the 90's Double Trio version of King Crimson.

Obviously, when playing to a track, accuracy is key but the precision of the execution never hampers the ferocity of the performance and on that front, BTBAM takes lessons from no one: their set was as punishing as it was captivating.
