Halestorm @ Palais des Sports, Paris - November 16th, 2022

If Mammoth WVH provides a solid opening course, Halestorm arrives determined to raise the temperature considerably. Over the past decade, Lzzy Hale and her band have quietly established themselves as one of hard rock's most reliable live acts, and tonight's performance offers a compelling reminder of why.

Halestorm occupies an interesting space within contemporary rock music. One foot remains planted firmly in classic heavy metal, with nods to Judas Priest, Iron Maiden and other genre pioneers never far from the surface. The other embraces the heavier end of modern alternative rock. The result is a sound that feels familiar without being nostalgic, contemporary without chasing trends.

At the centre of it all stands Lzzy Hale, whose combination of charisma, power and sheer vocal ability continues to set her apart from many of her peers. She commands the stage effortlessly, shifting from playful banter to full-throated rock-star theatrics without ever seeming forced. Around her, the band performs with the confidence of a group that has spent years honing its craft in front of live audiences. Guitarist Joe Hottinger in particular contributes several fiery solos that remind everyone that Halestorm has never been afraid to embrace traditional hard rock values.

Unsurprisingly, much of the set draws from the then-current Back From The Dead, an album whose songs already sound perfectly at home alongside the band's established material. Older favourites receive an equally enthusiastic reception, and the audience responds with the same energy regardless of the era represented. That level of engagement speaks volumes about the consistency of Halestorm's catalogue.

The performance is energetic, tightly executed and entirely free of filler. More importantly, it understands its role within the evening. Halestorm is not here to conserve energy or simply warm up the crowd. They attack the stage as if they were headlining.

By the time they leave, the audience is fully primed for the main event. As opening acts go, it is difficult to imagine a more effective one.
