The Honnet Brothers @ Café de la Danse, Paris - March 27th, 2026

The Honnet Brothers are a French duo consisting of brothers Davy and Anthony on drums and Hammond organ respectively. Their music is a timeless fusion of jazz, funk and a little world music (latin, African...) sprinkled on top. This concert served as a release party for their excellent debut album D&A which came out in February. They were joined on stage by some of the musicians that played on the album: Stéphane Edouard on percussion, Philippe Sellam on saxophoneJean-Marie Ecay on guitar and Christian Altehülshorst on trumpet. Robben Ford was also supposed to take part but had to cancel for medical reasons, but the siblings' father Jean-Marie Honnet, himself a keyboard player, came up to play a tune with his progeny.

The chemistry between all of these musicians was palpable, and the sense of fun infused every note and every groove. The virtuosity is staggering, but this isn't music as a demonstrative or competitive endeavor: it's a living, breathing organism that ebbs and flows in symbiosis with all the participants, including the audience. There's nothing artificial or superficial about this music, and it can't be faked. The proof is in the pudding: at the end of the night, the audience was standing on its collective feet, dancing and swaying almost unconsciously to these sounds of brotherhood. The start of a very promising career.
