Party poopers tend to dismiss Steel Panther as a joke band, pointing to their devotion 80's glam metal scene, their deliberately crude lyrics, and their over-the-top image. The origins of the band, The origins of the band, back when they performed as Metal Skool and hosted some of the wildest parties Hollywood had seen since the heyday of Poison and Mötley Crüe, certainly fed that perception. But nearly two decades and six albums of original material in, that categorization no longer applies: while their tongue remains firmly planted in their cheeks (and their female fans various orifices, presumably) they have also solidified their reputation as torchbearers of a much-maligned but hugely popular genre that refuses to die. The reason is simple: under the make-up and the double entendres (who are we kidding? the single entendres, really), Steel Panther fucking rocks. Their songs are every bit as good (and, I would argue, often better) than the ones they draw inspiration from, Satchel comes up with genuinely killer riffs and face melting solos, and lead singer Michael Starr has the charisma of old school David Lee Roth and the voice of a heavy metal banshee. Strip away all the glitter and bad taste, they are a genuinely solid hard rock band with great songs.
So if you like fun, if you like rocking out, if you enjoy great tunes, great musicianship and if you also have a sense of humor about it all, Steel Panther is for you. Let the naysayers and gatekeepers wallow in their little circle jerks while listening to "serious" music (what would that be? Black metal? Math rock?) and come join the party on June 15th, 2026 when Steel Panther returns to Bataclan to celebrate everything we love about the 80's hair metal scene. It'll be loud, it'll be lewd, it'll be cool and most of all it'll be fun. What more do you want from a rock n' roll show? Boobs, perhaps? On this front also, the band has you covered.
