The Vintage Caravan @ Petit Bain, Paris - September 26th, 2025

Petit Bain became a stoner’s den for a night, lacking only a lava lamp to complete the scene. The Vintage Caravan is where hippies and headbangers meet, a power trio that reconciles several strands of seventies music: meaty Sabbathian riffs, lysergic Hendrixian solos, Crimson-like progressive turns, and a knack for direct melodies in the spirit of KISS or Cheap Trick.

Their new album Portals, released only hours earlier, marks another step in refining their formula. The hard rock sounds leaner and more forceful, the psychedelia more immersive. Much of the set drew from this fresh material, and new songs like "Philosopher" and "Current" blended naturally with older staples such as "On the Run" and the aptly named "Expand Your Mind," as though they had always belonged together.

Draped in full psychedelic bohemian regalia, Óskar Logi Ágústsson emerged as a formidable guitar hero in the lineage of Frank Marino and Robin Trower, a disciple of Hendrix for the twenty-first century. Alexander Örn Númason and Stefán Ari Stefánsson supplied a responsive, muscular pulse that gave melodies and solos breathing room and the right lift, carrying the music into the stratosphere during the extended instrumental flights.

The Vintage Caravan marry muscle and imagination with rare ease. They channel the grit of classic hard rock and the glow of psychedelia into songs that feel both timeless and alive right now.
