Julien’s Auction will host a special sale titled “Celebrating Bob Dylan” on January 18, 2025, in Nashville, featuring 50 rare lots from the personal archive of Al Aronowitz, the legendary rock journalist who played a key role in shaping the cultural landscape of the 1960s. Aronowitz, best known for his long-running "Pop Scene" column in the New York Post, not only wrote about pop culture but was deeply involved in it, forming lasting relationships with many of the era’s biggest stars.
Aronowitz's son, Myles Aronowitz, shared insight into his father's unique ability to connect artists, recalling his role in introducing Bob Dylan to Allen Ginsberg, the Beatles, and others like Jimi Hendrix and Miles Davis. Myles emphasized that his father's impact went beyond journalism—he was a cultural connector who helped shape music history.
The auction will include a remarkable selection of items, including two pages of Bob Dylan’s typescript lyrics for "Mr. Tambourine Man," written during a late-night session at the Aronowitz family home. Additional highlights include rare photographs from Dylan’s 1961 recording sessions in New York, a handbill from his historic 1965 Town Hall performance, and a one-of-a-kind Ionic Original disc of Dylan’s 2021 re-recording of "The Times They Are A-Changin’," produced by T Bone Burnett.
With 50 items on offer, this curated collection provides fans and collectors an exclusive chance to acquire artifacts that chronicle the close relationship between Aronowitz and Dylan, as well as the broader cultural movements of the 1960s.
