Field Music @ Flow, Paris - April 7th, 2018

The Brewis brothers David and Peter are Field Music, a band that plays a brand of angular chamber pop with progressive leanings that is distinctly English. Not exactly the most fashionable music these days, especially here in France and consequently the small venue wasn't even full.

Those who did attend however enjoyed the clever songwriting and sophisticated arrangements. The brothers split lead vocals and rotated between guitar and drums during the whole set, which was a little confusing at first but that kind of focal change helped keep things fresh.

It takes really good players to make this rather intricate music sound so simple and immediate. Although catchy and melodic, and even a little funky, maybe songs like I Keep Thinking About A New Thing and Noisy Days Are Over are just not dumb enough to become hits here. In any case Field Music is increasing its following with each release and hopefully the next tour sees them reaping what they sowed.
