Following the crushing opening salvo from Humanity’s Last Breath, Shadow of Intent somehow managed to raise the level of aggression even further. As improbable as it seemed, every band on the bill pushed the ferocity up another notch, and this was no exception. Not for the faint of heart, Shadow of Intent now lean more clearly toward classic death metal foundations, even as traces of post hardcore intensity remain woven into the fabric of their sound. Kinetic, violent and meticulously executed, the set confirmed that they have long outgrown their early video game obsessions. What stands now is a fully formed metal band whose music no longer relies on concept or gimmick, but on sheer force and conviction.
