Obituary @ le Zénith, Paris - October 30th, 2024

Obituary, always the reliable killing machine, delivered a crushing set opening for Sepultura in Paris, proving once again why they’re legends in the Death Metal scene. It was thrilling to see the band command such a massive stage with their distinctive, groove-heavy approach to the genre. Unlike some of their Floridian peers, Obituary’s sound leans slightly slower and groovier, yet remains relentlessly sick and aggressive.

Frontman John Tardy brought his unmistakable growl to life, delivering lyrics with a level of clarity and organic punch rarely found in Death Metal. His presence is captivating, effortlessly hyping the crowd while showcasing a voice that sets him apart from other growlers. Meanwhile, Donald Tardy’s drumming added a unique rock ‘n’ roll sensibility, giving the band’s ferocious sound a refreshingly palatable edge.

Obituary’s performance left all of the Metalheads in attendance eager for more of their patented Redneck Stomp, and thankfully they’ll be back next month for a headlining show in an intimate venue nearby. Be there or be... dead.
