SatchVai Band to play Paris in June!

 

This Friday's Playlist compiles songs about real people. As usual, there are some rules I've adhered to: I've tried to avoid presenting the same artists twice. I've also excluded any diss songs, which means there are no ex-bandmates feud songs like John Lennon's How Do You Sleep? or Guns N' Roses' Sorry. As usual, I've made an exception to that rule by including Pink Floyd's elegy for their former leader Syd Barrett.

I've also excluded songs that artists wrote about themselves, like Bo Diddley by Bo Diddley, or Hey! Bob Diddley by Bo Diddley, Bo Diddley Is Loose by Bo Diddley, Bo Diddley Is A Lover by Bo Diddley, You Bo Diddley by Bo Diddley or even Diddley Daddley by Bo Diddley.

What you get is a mix of songs about historical figures (Hernan Cortés, Alexander the Great, Steve Biko, Ludwig Van Beethoven, etc.) and contemporary celebrities (Rosanna Arquette, Marilyn Mornoe, Jack Palance, Lynyrd Skynyrd). And, of course, the mysterious celebrity Carly Simon wrote about in You're So Vain. Is it James Taylor? Warren Beatty? SpongeBob SquarePants? We may never know.
