Friday's Playlist: Post Rock, Noise Rock, Drone and Experimental

We like a good traditional song as much as the next person, but this playlist isn't about that. Not even remotely. Hell, some of it isn't even considered music by most people. Surely, Lou Reed's Metal Machine Music was him just taking the piss. Right? And Nurse with Wound... What the fuck is that, even?

Well, I don't know what it is, but I like it. But then again if it's sick, twisted, weird and offensive there's a good chance I'll enjoy it. I even dig Merzbow and the Harsh Wall Noise movement, although I wouldn't know how to make a playlist around it.

Thankfully there are some light, almost ethereal moments in this playlist. Mogwai and Sigur Rós provide some much needed relief from all the abrasive, confrontational, tense noise of Sunn O))). Even Earth and Godspeed You! Black Emperor are bubblegum pop compared to Neil Young's Arc. It's a long playlist and you may have to listen to it in instalments, if you can even stomach it at all. We promise that next Friday's Playlist will be a little more listenable.
