Friday's Playlist: Children of the Stones


Today we compiled a few songs that are obviously indebted to the World's Greatest Rock and Roll Band (™). Not rip-offs necessarily, but songs that have almost every element of what has become the classic Rolling Stones sound.


Of course, being great artists in their own rights, the performers in this playlist never end up sounding exactly like their influence. And really, no one could. What's the secret to the Stones' sound never being exactly duplicated? My theory is that it's Charlie's swing and Keith's mystical open tunings.

 Still, try listening to these songs and imagining Mick, Keith, Charlie and Ronnie (or preferably Mick T.) playing them. Uncanny, ain't it?
