The Obsessed @ Glazart, Paris - November 1st, 2026

Scott "Wino" Weinrich is no stranger to the French capital, but The Obsessed haven't played Paris in thirty years. Of course, the band looked rather different back then: it was still a trio, and Wino is the only musician from that era still on board. Yet the music and the ethos have survived intact, through changing fashions, adverse circumstances, break-ups, reunions and a seemingly endless succession of musicians. There's something reassuring about that kind of stubborn consistency: whatever happens, The Obsessed are The Obsessed, and they're not about to start messing with the formula now.
You can call it Doom Metal, Stoner Metal or whatever other label seems appropriate, and the debt to Black Sabbath is undeniable. But strip away the genre classifications and what you have is a tremendous Rock 'n' Roll machine, built around killer riffs, perfectly constructed songs and an instinctive understanding of what makes Heavy Rock work. Wino is a formidable guitarist, with a tone and style that are instantly recognisable, but he's perfectly happy to share the six-string spotlight with Jason Taylor, whose playing adds another dimension to the band's sound. Behind them, Bob Pantella, a veteran of Monster Magnet and The Atomic Bitchwax, provides the muscle and precision, while bassist Chris Angleberger locks in with him to form a rhythm section that can swing, stomp and flatten everything in its path.
And what a setlist. There's plenty from the purple self-titled debut, Lunar Womb and The Church Within, alongside more recent material from Sacred and 2024's Gilded Sorrow. The band even throws in the title track from its forthcoming album, Live Fast, Love Hard, Die Free, demonstrating that Wino has no intention of turning The Obsessed into a travelling museum of Doom Metal history. The older material has lost none of its bite, while the newer songs fit naturally into the repertoire, all driven by that same combination of heavyweight riffs, gritty melodies and no-nonsense musicianship.
At Glazart, the appeal is wonderfully straightforward: four musicians playing exceptionally good Heavy Rock, without gimmicks, unnecessary theatrics or any apparent concern for what happens to be fashionable. Wino has spent the better part of five decades following his own musical instincts, and tonight offers ample evidence of why he's become such a revered figure in the underground Metal world. An excellent evening in the company of a genuine legend, and a long-overdue Parisian return for one of American Metal's finest bands.
