Sparks will release their first official live album, Live On The Moon, on August 14th via Transgressive Records. The 20 track collection spans the band's remarkable career, from early classics such as "Whippings and Apologies" and "This Town Ain't Big Enough For Both Of Us" to more recent material including "The Girl Is Crying In Her Latte" and "Do Things My Own Way". The album also features introductions and interludes from actress Cate Blanchett, who has become an enthusiastic member of the Sparks universe in recent years.
To coincide with the announcement, Sparks have unveiled "Whippings and Apologies (Live On The Moon)", originally featured on their 1972 album A Woofer In Tweeter's Clothing. The album will be available on double vinyl, CD and digital formats and arrives as the band continues another busy year of international touring.
As for the album's title and concept, only Sparks could announce their first live record by claiming it was recorded at a sold out concert in the Taruntius Crater on the Moon, complete with Cate Blanchett serving as master of ceremonies and keeping spirits high during the four day journey through space. The press release does not reveal where the performances were actually recorded, nor whether the album documents a single concert or compiles recordings from multiple dates on the band's 2025 MAD! tour. Whatever the source, the tracklist suggests a broad retrospective covering more than fifty years of music. We caught Sparks in Paris during that tour and can confirm that the material translated brilliantly to the stage.
