Evan Honer opened the evening at La Maroquinerie with a set that immediately won the room over. Still very young, he already writes songs that feel worldy, mixing humor and quiet confession without tipping into self importance. His music sits somewhere between folk and country, grounded and familiar, and sharpened by an acerbic edge that keeps it from ever becoming cozy background fare. Honer’s voice cuts cleanly through the room, carried by his acoustic guitar and subtly reinforced by an electric counterpart, giving the songs just enough bite. Light on its feet but serious at heart, it was the kind of opening set that feels generous, disarming and quietly memorable.
