Opening for CocoRosie at Le Trianon was Argentinian pop artist Maia Kalwill, whose glitter-coated melodies and bold stage presence made for a curious—and curiously fitting—prelude. Performing solo with backing tracks in place of a live band, she delivered catchy, well-crafted songs that hinted at something bigger, even if the absence of live instrumentation left the set feeling a touch underfed. Still, her performance had a certain charged theatricality—part pop siren, part fever dream—which left the audience somewhere between entertained and slightly unsettled. A compelling act, and a clever bit of mood-setting before the main descent into CocoRosie’s world.
