Matt Shultz remains the quintessential rock frontman—always in the crowd’s face, but never confrontational. He’s toned down the acrobatics, spending less time climbing the stage or launching himself into the audience, but his energy is undiminished. If anything, his connection with the crowd has only deepened. And in return, the crowd never stopped jumping, dancing, and screaming along.
The set leaned heavily on the holy triumvirate of Melophobia, Social Cues and Tell Me I'm Pretty with a handful of tracks from their latest album, Neon Pill, sprinkled in. The band saved their most raucous rockers for the end, sending the night off in a frenzy.
A fantastic show from one of the greatest bands of its generation and the Zénith audience seemed to agree. For 90 minutes, Cage The Elephant owned the small arena. On the next tour cycle, it will be a stadium.
