Heather Nova doesn't need much to hold a room. An acoustic guitar, that clear, expressive voice and a catalogue built on strong melodies are enough. The stripped-back setting suits her particularly well, leaving the songs exposed without making them feel diminished.
One of the evening's sweetest moments comes during “London Rain (Nothing Heals Me Like You Do),” when a member of the audience is invited to provide backing vocals. It's a simple gesture, but it fits the intimacy of the show perfectly.
The only conspicuous omission is “Walk This World,” still her best-known song. A minor frustration in an otherwise exquisite set, and proof that sometimes less really is enough.
